Jehu Project Services

hnla Fire Engineering has completed over ten projects for the construction of timber frame buildings.

Projects included detailed studies of fire risks to nearby properties particularly where construction is close to adjacent buildings.

A particular site was close to a number of buildings which caused concern to Health and Safety Executive inspectors. A number of simple, cost effective measures were recommended. These were fully accepted by the HSE.

Capital Quarter Cardiff

Capital Quarter is a landmark development by JR Smart, in the heart of Cardiff City Centre’s Enterprise Zone. No3 Capital Quarter is a new 7 storey development. The building will provide 85,077 sq ft of high calibre office space, meeting the technical specification and environmental considerations of the most sophisticated occupier. With floor plates of 4,715 sq-ft up to 13, 475 sq-ft. hnla Fire Engineering have recently commenced fire engineering work on our third project for this site.

Sofidel Intertissue

hnla Fire Engineering has recently concluded its third project for Intertissue. One of these was to carry out an analysis using computational fluid dynamics to evaluate the means of escape at the £70m Intertissue plant in South Wales. The factory is Europe’s most modern fully integrated paper mill and produces 600 million rolls of household tissue a year. The analysis enabled hnla to recommend changes to the fire strategy which resulted in savings in excess of £200,000.
In recent years we have been providing risk assessments for Sofidel paper mills across the UK.

Bridgnorth Aluminium

We are currently advising Star Litho on the construction of a new rolling mill and other plant at their Bridgnorth site. The mill and associated plant produces lithographic plate for the printing industry. The process necessitates many safety features including gas suppression, water suppression and planned protected escape routes.

South Wales Police Cardiff Bay

This £20m landmark building provides a new Headquarters and police station for South Wales Police. The project includes state of the art facilities and houses around 250 staff. The project includes a 60 cell custody suite. hnla Fire Engineers worked with the Police, Stradform and Capita to provide an overall fire strategy which balances a requirement for security with fire safety.
